Champions League final: Liverpool fans spend almost £450,000 on private jets to fly them to Kiev
Fans from both Liverpool and Real Madrid have been forced into desperate measures as they attempt to organise travel to the Ukrainian capital

A group of 540 Liverpool fans have hired three private jets to fly them to Kiev for this Saturday’s Champions League final against Real Madrid, at a total cost of almost £450,000.
Fans from both Liverpool and Real Madrid have been forced into desperate measures as they attempt to organise travel to the Ukrainian capital, with the logistics of their respective journeys proving problematic.
For Liverpool’s supporters, flights have been quickly booked up, with some selling for £1,000. The high prices are in part a result of Thomas Cook leasing extra planes to meet the increased demands.
In a bid to avoid paying such high costs, some fans are set to travel via coach from Liverpool on Thursday before departing in the late hours after the game.
Others have opted for a more luxurious means of travel, with 540 fans forking out approximately £411,000 between them to hire three planes from private jet charter Victor.
The supporters will travel to and from Kiev via the Airbus A320, each of which accommodates for approximately 180 people.
Compared to last year’s final in Cardiff, Victor has seen a 2,354 per cent increase in requests for private jet hire.
This follows the news that more than 2,000 Real Madrid fans have been forced to return their tickets for Saturday’s due to the logistical complications and costs involved in travelling to Kiev.
A total of 24,268 Madrid season-ticket holders entered the ballot to secure one of the 12,802 tickets made available for the club for the final, which kicks off at 7.45pm (BST).
However, an estimated 2,200 fans have since returned their allocated tickets, citing logistical issues as their reasoning.
