Vladimir Manchev scored twice as Lille continued their 100 per cent start to the French season with a 3-0 win over Toulouse.

The Bulgarian striker netted in the 37 and 64th minutes against the struggling hosts, as Lille consolidated their position at the top of the table. Philippe Brunel rounded off the scoring in the 70th minute for Lille, who had opened their campaign with impressive home victories over the champions Lyon and Paris St Germain.

Nice, who were top of the table on goal difference going into the weekend's games, and Ajaccio both surrendered their 100 per cent records, although Nice remain unbeaten after their 1-1 draw with top-flight newcomers Le Mans. Ajaccio lost at home to Nantes, who came away from Corsica with a 3-1 victory.

Lyon recovered more ground after their initial setback with a fine 2-0 win at Montpellier while a 2-0 success over Bastia kept Monaco, who finished runners-up in the championship last season, in the top half of the table.

A second-half goal from Jerome Leroy gave Paris St Germain a 1-0 win over Metz, securing their first victory of the season to the relief of the club's new coach, Vahid Halilhodzic.

Rennes are still undefeated after a 1-1 draw with Sochaux, but Guingamp remain bottom of the table and pointless after a 3-1 home defeat to Bordeaux. Auxerre recorded their first victory of the campaign with a 3-2 win at home to Strasbourg.
