Manolo Gabbiadini: Sampdoria player tests positive for coronavirus
Italian becomes second Serie A player found to have contracted the disease
Former Southampton player Manolo Gabbiadini has tested positive for coronavirus, his club Sampdoria have said.
The 28-year-old becomes the second player in Serie A to test positive for the disease, after Juventus announced on Wednesday that defender Daniele Rugani had contracted the virus.
“Gabbiadini has a slight fever, but is otherwise fine,” read a statement released by Sampdoria.
“The club is activating all isolation procedures as set out by the authorities.”
Shortly after the announcement, Gabbiadini released his own statement.
“I’ve tested positive for coronavirus,” he said. ”I want to thank you all for the many messages I’ve received.
“I also want to let you know that I’m fine, so don’t worry. Follow the rules, stay at home and everything will work out.”
Gabbiadini has also played for Juventus, Napoli and Atalanta.
He left Southampton to return to former team Sampdoria in January 2019.
