Michy Batshuayi admits it 'wasn't always easy' as he opens up on 'difficult' Chelsea spell

Michy Batshuayi has opened up on his "difficult" spell at Chelsea, admitting “it wasn’t always easy" under manager Antonio Conte.

Despite securing the title for Chelsea last season with his winning goal at West Brom, the forward struggled for game-time at the Bridge.

The vast majority of his appearances came off the bench, leaving him frustrated at his limited opportunities.

As such, Batshuayi jumped at the chance to join Borussia Dortmund on loan in January and has already scored five goals in three games for the Bundesliga side.

Looking back on his time at Chelsea, the 24-year-old said: “It wasn’t always easy at Chelsea. I’m now playing with a lot of confidence.

“Sitting on the bench, score a goal and then back to the bench is quite difficult to deal with for an attacker.”

Dortmund are expected to try and secure Batshuayi on a permanent basis this summer having only signed him for six months on deadline day.

And it’s easy to see why. After making a lightening start to life in Germany, the forward was at it again on Thursday night, bagging two goals in Dortmund’s 3-2 win over Atalanta in their last-32 Europa League tie.

“I don’t know if Conte was watching my game,” he said afterwards. “They are focusing on the Premier League (FA Cup) and have an important Champions League tie next week. I hope it turns out well for them.”
