Patrice Evra suggested that 'Manchester United blood' running through his and man-of-the match Carlos Tevez's veins helped inspire Juventus to victory over Real Madrid.

The two former Old Trafford favourites were excellent as Juventus beat Real Madrid 2-1 in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.

Tevez in particular stood out, with his shot leading to the opening goal for Alvaro Morata. After Cristiano Ronaldo equalised, Tevez won a penalty for the Italian side after running from inside his own half. He dusted himself off before dispatching it past Iker Casillas,

Speaking after the match, Evra pointed to their shared past as Manchester United players.

"Nobody expected us to get this far, it is 12 years since we got this far," he said.

"Carlos Tevez has United blood like myself. He is a champion. He has had a fantastic year and we want to win the Champions League. He is a massive professional.

"The most important thing was the win. It is never easy against Real and I am very proud of my team mates and staff. We prepared very well and we got the win. We are very confident. Well done, we are 50 per cent of the way there."

The sides meet in the second leg at the Bernabeu next Wednesday.
