Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sees no reason why Manchester United cannot “go all the way” in this year’s Champions League after their incredible comeback in Paris Saint-Germain.

United became the first team in the history of the European Cup to overturn a 2-0 first-leg home deficit thanks to Marcus Rashford’s dramatic late VAR penalty.

Romelu Lukaku’s brace had given United hope of reaching the last eight but a Juan Bernat goal meant they needed to score three on the night.

PSG limited United’s opportunities in the second half but when Diogo Dalot’s late attempt struck Presnel Kimpembe on the arm, referee Damir Skomia consulted VAR.

Rashford scored the spot-kick, earning United a place in the quarter-finals and a cautious Solskjaer would not rule out taking his side all the way.

“Of course we fancy ourselves,” Solskjaer said. “We can go all the way but we just have to wait for the draw and then take the game as it comes.

“We’ve had loads of injuries, suspensions but that was maybe a good thing today.

“We had a fresh team, loads of energy, and we defend and humble enough to work hard and we had a team to do that.”

Caretaker manager Solskjaer remains adamant that his long-term future at United is not for up for discussion at present and will be resolved at the end of the season.

The Norwegian was not considered a candidate to be Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor on his arrival, though he is now the overwhelming favourite.

“That’s not my job to answer, not now,” he said, when asked whether United need clarity on his position before the end of the season.

“I’m just doing the best I can now and planning with the club for the future, or for us, it doesn’t matter if I’m here or not.

“I’m still giving my opinion and advice on what we should do next season. I don’t really mind that, because I’m a supporter, as well.

“I want the best for Man United. As a supporter you want the best, as a manager you want the best, so you can ask me any advice any time.”
