Barcelona’s Lionel Messi continues breaking records at an unstoppable pace.

With his goal against Real Madrid, the Argentinian became the all-time top scorer for a single club across Europe’s top five leagues, surpassing Gerd Muller’s total of 525 strikes for Bayern Munich.

In addition to this worldwide achievement, Messi also broke some records in Spain after scoring from the penalty spot.

The Argentinian scored for the 15th time at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, the home of Real Madrid, and no opposition player has ever scored more at the ground.

In total, Messi has scored 25 goals against Real Madrid – well ahead Los Blancos legends Alfredo di Stéfano (who scored 18 goals against Barcelona) and Cristiano Ronaldo (17).

Moreover, Messi has now scored 54 goals during 2017, taking him ahead of with Cristiano Ronaldo, who stays with 53 after el clásico.

Robert Lewandowski and Edison Cavani have the same total, although Tottenham’s Harry Kane could catch Messi if he scores four goals in the club’s last two matches of the season, against Burnley and Southampton respectively.

Messi remains the top scorer in La Liga with 15 goals this season. Behind him are Valencia’s Simone Zaza (10 goals) and Messi’s teammate at Barcelona, Luis Suárez (also 10).
