Real Madrid news: Zinedine Zidane and Florentino Perez 'clash' over Martin Odegaard's inclusion on tour

The 17-year-old is expected to be sent out on loan this season

Zinedine Zidane has reportedly clashed with Florentino Perez, the Real Madrid president, over the use of Martin Odegaard on the club’s pre-season tour.

The 17-year-old Odegaard is required to train with the first-team under the terms of his contract, which he signed following his high-profile move from Stromsgodset in January 2015.

Perez is also keen for the youngster to travel with Zidane’s squad for their pre-season friendlies in North America because, according to the Daily Mail, the exposure will help him find a loan club for the new season.

Zidane, however, is apparently against Odegaard joining the squad, as he feels other members of Madrid’s ‘Castilla’ B-team are more deserving of a place.

Marco Asensio and Marcos Llorente, two other young midfielders on the club’s books, have been selected to travel with the squad, as have Zidane’s two sons, Luca and Enzo.

Odegaard has only made one senior appearance since arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu, which came during the 2014/15 season, and is expected to be sent on loan this term.

Hamburg, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool have been linked with the Norway international, despite him scoring just twice in 45 appearances for Castilla.

Odegaard’s future at Madrid was called into question by his former mental coach in March, who claimed he may have to fulfil his potential away from the Spanish capital.

Klaus Pettersen, who worked with Odegaard at Stromsgodset, told Goal: “He has the mind to carry such a great blessing.

“Whether it will be in Madrid I am not sure, but I believe that we will see him on the biggest stages with the biggest players.”
