Real Madrid have confirmed that they have reached a deal reportedly worth around 35million euros with Benfica for Argentina winger Angel di Maria.

The 22-year-old is currently on World Cup duty with the Albiceleste in South Africa, having helped his country reach the quarter-finals, where they will face Germany.

Di Maria, who has already tasted success in the World Under-20 Championships and the Olympic Games, had been with the Portuguese giants since the summer of 2007, helping them to a league and cup double last season.

A statement on Real’s official club website confirmed: “Real Madrid and Benfica have reached an agreement for the transfer of Angel di Maria.

“The player will sign a six-year contract with Real Madrid.”
