The Dutch authorities say a second worker has died of injuries sustained when the roof of a football stadium partially collapsed during construction work.

The municipality of Enschede confirmed in a statement that a 24-year-old died on Friday afternoon. A 31-year-old man died on Thursday during the accident at FC Twente's Grolsch Veste stadium.

Five other workers remain hospitalised. Enschede's Mayor, Peter den Oudsten, said: "It is terrible that we must again mourn a fatality."

Dutch police say they have launched an investigation into the incident and have formed a special team of investigators to establish whether any crime led to the collapse of the roof at the stadium on the outskirts of the eastern city of Enschehe.

Investigators are also appealing for amateur video to help piece together how the roof suddenly fell.
