Second-half goals from Jean-Claude Darcheville and Steven Whittaker earned Rangers an heroic victory over Sporting Lisbon last night and a place in the last four of the Uefa Cup.

Darcheville converted Steven Davis's cross and then substitute Steven Whittaker added a goal of his own deep into injury time, running from his own half past four Sporting defenders to provide the perfect end to a memorable meeting. The 2-0 aggregate win means Rangers will meet Fiorentina, who defeated PSV Eindhoven 3-1 on aggregate, in the semi-finals.
