Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni has been fined 25,000 euros for his criticism of coach Louis van Gaal.

Toni said on Monday his relationship with the Dutch coach was "as good as over" after having "problems" with him for over four months.

Bayern's general manager Uli Hoeness last night revealed the striker had been fined and that his future at the Allianz Arena is dependent on an apology.

"His comments are not acceptable," Hoeness told Sky television after his side's 1-0 win over Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League.

"He has been given a total fine of 25,000 euros, but we are still waiting for an apology.

"Should one arrive, then I think he still has a chance here."

Roma and Valencia are both reported to be interested in the 32-year-old, who favours a return to Italy this winter to boost his chances of making Marcello Lippi's World Cup squad.

Bayern did not need Toni last night to keep alive their hopes of reaching the last 16 of the Champions League.

However, it was not a vintage Bayern performance as they only just scraped past Maccabi, despite creating numerous chances.

"You can still see that our team is not playing with the self-confidence that we should have," commented Hoeness.

"On the one hand, we tried very hard and created chances, but once again, we did not score enough goals.

"But in the end, we needed to taste success again and we have managed that with this win and now we have the chance to still qualify and that will certainly give us self-confidence."

Bayern travel to Turin in a fortnight needing to beat Juventus to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition. A draw would be good enough to see the Bianconeri go through.
