Uefa Team of the Year 2015 announced with no room for Premier League players

More than 600,000 people made 7million votes

The Premier League was once again left trailing Europe's top two leagues as the Uefa Team of the Year was announced.

England's top division may claim to be the richest and most watched of Europe's big five leagues, but it's certainly lacking marquee stars, as fans across the continent have pointed out.

Not one Premier League player (Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Eden Hazard, Wayne Rooney, Sergio Aguero) have managed to break into Uefa's best XI.

Angel Di Maria made the team last year, but as Manchester United fans will testify, that was more for his heroics with Real Madrid than at Old Trafford.

Ozil was in the team in 2013, but again, that was more for what he did in the white of Real Madrid than the red of Arsenal.

The last time a Premier League player made the team in his own right was when Gareth Bale, then of Tottenham Hotspur, was selected in 2011.

Previous to that Premier League players were regulars in the team, with Ashley Cole, Cristiano Ronaldo, John Terry Didier Drogba, Steven Gerrard, Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas all receiving votes in past years.

More than 600,000 voters (640,948) cast their vote on the Uefa website and another 165,494 were made on Twitter for a total of 7,050,428 votes.
