Valencia secure late draw to save Gary Neville's blushes in first La Liga game

Victory for Eibar would have seen them move above Valencia in the league

Gary Neville was spared from suffering his second defeat in as many games since taking over at Valencia when his side claimed a late draw against Eibar.

Taking charge of his first La Liga game, the Manchester United legend looked set to be dealt the same result as the one suffered in midweek's Champions League tie against Lyon.

However, with his side trailing 1-0 and down to 10-men, in the 85th minute André Gomes came up with a scrappy equaliser.

Eibar had taken the lead just before half-time through Sergi Enrich. Valencia left-back Lucas Orban was completely outpaced by Cana who was able to get to the byline before pulling the ball back for a simple finish.

It got worse for Orban who was sent off after 63 minutes. The Argetine was harshly adjudged to have made a foul in the box leading to a penalty for Eibar.

Despite it looking likely that they would go two goals down, Valencia were given a lifeline when Berjon saw his spot-kick saved by Domenech.

It was to provide the catalyst for a comeback and the match ended 1-1, the draw seeing Valencia move up to eighth in the table.
