One of football's greatest ever players may be banned from coaching because he lacks the correct coaching qualifications to do the job.

Zinedine Zidane is currently in charge of Real Madrid Castilla - Madrid's reserve side - but Spain's national coaching association Cenafe filed a complaint about Zidane at the start of the season.

The French master, who helped Les Bleus win the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000, could now be banned for anything between four and 16 matches or one and six months.

Real Madrid have now claimed that Zidane is actually the assistant and Sergio Sanchez is in fact the head coach.

"Real Madrid is one of the most recognisable sporting institutions in the world and a symbol of this sport but they have to follow the same rules as everyone else otherwise the competition is not fair," said president of Cenafe Miguel Galan.

Zidane won numerous individual awards including the Ballon d'Or in 1998 and FIFA World Player of the Year three times.

He won three League titles for Juventus and Real Madrid and the Champions League for the Spanish club in 2002.
