Brighton and Hove Albion host bitter rivals Crystal Palace in what is sure to be a feisty FA Cup third round encounter on Monday night.

The Seagulls come into the derby disappointed at not being able to grab a win last time out against Bournemouth, but are on a three-match unbeaten run at the Amex Stadium and will be confident of dumping out their foes out of the competition.

Three is not necessarily the magic number for Chris Hughton’s men, though, who haven’t won any of their last three derbies against the Eagles. More worryingly, the side have only won one game against Palace at the Amex since moving in.

Roy Hodgson’s side have been soaring in recent weeks, taking four points from the last six available to climb to 14th in the Premier League table. This included holding runaway leaders Manchester City to a draw, and they could have inflicted a first league defeat of the season on the side were it not for Luka Milovojevic’s injury time penalty miss.

Scott Dann and Jason Puncheon suffered season-ending injuries in that encounter, whilst Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Joel Ward and Mamadou Sakho remain sidelined. Hodgson suggested that he will rotate his side.

For Brighton, Steve Sidwell is the only absentee with a back injury, but Hughton was coy on whether he would be making several changes to his line-up too.

It’s a big game for…

Wilfried Zaha. The winger talked the talk but failed to walk the walk in the last derby between these sides last month. The Ivorian international has fond memories of playing at the Amex though, scoring the goals which knocked Brighton out of the play-offs in 2013.

Palace are unbeaten in three FA Cup ties vs Brighton – the last of which was in 1976, the infamous match which kick-started the rivalry between the clubs.

Player to watch…

Jose Izquierdo. The Colombian wide man has shone brightly on the south coast since his summer move from Club Brugge. He grabbed two assists last time out against Bournemouth, and probably should have won the game after running the length of the pitch with the ball at his feet, only to be denied by Asmir Begovic.
