Millwall and Everton did not wear black armbands in tribute to missing Argentinian striker Emiliano Sala during their FA Cup tie on Saturday at the request of the player’s family.

Sala has been missing since Monday evening, along with pilot Dave Ibbotson, after their flight disappeared off radars near Guernsey in the English Channel.

Teams playing on the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon had worn black armbands, but Sala’s family asked for them not to be worn, because he has not yet been found and has not been declared dead.

Millwall and Everton, who kicked off at 5.30pm, therefore decided not to wear armbands for their match at The Den.

Authorities have ended the official search for the 28-year-old but his close friends and family are set to privately continue looking despite the remote outlook.
