FA Cup round-up: Coventry stunned by Conference North minnows Worcester City

Coventry were on the end of the biggest upset of FA Cup first-round weekend as they crashed 2-1 at home to Worcester City.

The Sky Blues, who won the trophy in 1987, were undone by two goals from Sean Geddes as the Conference North minnows secured a famous victory.

Geddes struck the first from the penalty spot just before half-time after Ryan Burge was sent off for the hosts, and grabbed his second in the 55th minute.

Reda Johnson pulled one back with a header nine minutes from time but the 10 men could not find an equaliser.

Elsewhere, Ryman Premier League side Maidstone claimed a replay after a 0-0 draw at League Two Stevenage, and 2008 winners Portsmouth were held 2-2 by Hampshire rivals Aldershot at Fratton Park.

Norton United, of the Evo-Stik South, saw their cup run come to an end as they were beaten 4-0 at home by Conference high-flyers Gateshead, with Rob Ramshaw grabbing a hat-trick.

Evo-Stik Premier side Blyth Spartans are in the second round, however, after a 4-1 home win over Altrincham.

Freddie Sears scored twice as Colchester sank Conference South side Gosport Borough 6-3 and Chesterfield also hit six, without reply, as they brushed aside Alan Devonshire's Braintree Town.

Jon Stead and Filipe Morais cancelled out Lois Maynard's opener to ensure Bradford overcame their Yorkshire rivals Halifax 2-1.

Gary McSheffrey hit both goals as Scunthorpe avoided an upset with a 2-0 win at Forest Green, and Wrexham eased past Conference rivals Woking 3-0.
