Kieron Dyer's outlook bleak despite equaliser against West Brom

Kieron Dyer, the Queen's Park Rangers midfielder, has made just 319 club appearances over his 16-year career. His last goal before Saturday's 90th-minute equaliser in the 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion came in May 2007.

Unfortunately for the 34-year-old former Newcastle United and West Ham player, QPR cannot afford to rely on a player with his desperate injury record when they are in a relegation battle at the foot of the Premier League.

Harry Redknapp, the Rangers manager, looks set not to include Dyer in his 25-man squad at the end of this month."I will see what happens with the whole squad," said Redknapp. "We need to strengthen, though.

"It was good for Kieron to get the goal. He has had a tough career with injuries, but it was a good confidence boost for him. He got through a whole game, which was good." It was only the second time this season that he had done so.

QPR also look set to lose centre-back Ryan Nelsen to the MLS. His former club DC United have denied an approach for him but it is thought Toronto FC want him to become their new head coach this month. Redknapp said: "He has been offered a job in America and I think there is every chance he might want to go. He wants to become a manager. I took him to Tottenham last year from Blackburn. He's one of the best pros I've ever met in my life, a fantastic player, a great trainer, a leader. It would be a massive blow to lose him."

After two years of over-spending, Redknapp wants to tighten the purse-strings at Loftus Road. He said: "The transfer window is open and we are looking around to see if we can get one or two in, but you have got to be careful.

"Prices can be inflated during the January window, so we have got to make sure we don't waste money needlessly. We are looking to see who is about at the right value."
