Cardiff last tonight clinched promotion to the Barclays Premier League.
Here, we take a look at five key games on their road to the top flight:
Cardiff 3 Wolves 1 (September 2)
Cardiff made a shaky start to the season, losing two and drawing one of their opening four matches. But they exploded into life against Wolves with a Peter Whittingham hat-trick. Cardiff went on to win four out of five games in September and were on the march.
Cardiff 2 Hull City 1 (November 10)
Successive defeats early in November had seen Cardiff slip into the play-off places but they responded by going six games unbeaten and regaining top spot in the table. This win, earned with goals from Heidar Helguson and Mark Hudson, was the catalyst.
Crystal Palace 1 Cardiff 2 (December 26)
The Boxing Day victory came in the middle of a four-game winning streak over the festive period - Cardiff's best run of the season - and against promotion rivals. Craig Noone and Gunnarsson fired Cardiff five points clear.
Cardiff 3 Blackburn 0 (April 1)
Cardiff, so long dogged by the tag of chokers, returned to winning ways after successive draws and put themselves on the brink of promotion with goals from Frazier Campbell, Joe Mason and Peter Whittingham.
Cardiff 0 Charlton 0 (April 16)
Malky Mackay's side failed to score but it did not matter as a point was enough to secure their first ever promotion to the Premier League and spark celebrations at the Cardiff City Stadium.
