Championship round-up: Dean Hammond's late leveller keeps long Leicester run going

Dean Hammond kept Leicester’s unbeaten run going with an 87th-minute equaliser (PA)

Championship leaders Leicester City needed a Dean Hammond goal with three minutes to go to preserve their 20-game unbeaten league record at play-off contenders Wigan.

Nigel Pearson's side were staring at their first defeat in the Championship since December at the DW Stadium but Hammond headed home from a corner to earn a 2-2 draw.

Ivan Ramis gave Wigan the lead with a towering header from a free-kick launched into the box after 37 minutes, but Leicester hit back four minutes later through Andy King's shot from the edge of the area. Defender Rob Kiernan restored the home side's lead just past the hour with a near-post header from a corner.

Brighton ended a run of three straight defeats with a 3-3 draw at Blackburn as they sought to resurrect their play-off challenge. David Rodriguez gave the visitors the lead in the 17th minute with a turn and shot from 15 yards out that beat goalkeeper Paul Robinson too easily at his near post.

Blackburn hit back eight minutes later when Jordan Rhodes showed characteristic opportunism to turn in a free-kick from 15 yards out. Tom Cairney gave them the lead just before half-time, firing the ball in from a tight angle.

Brighton equalised through Gordon Greer with 11 minutes to go, the Brighton captain scrambling the ball home at the near post from a corner. However, Greer then fouled Rhodes in the area and the Blackburn striker buried the penalty for his 22nd goal of the season. Yet Oscar Garcia's side were not done and Dale Stephens' header with two minutes to go earned a point.

Charlton moved three points clear of the relegation zone and heaped more misery on Leeds with a 1-0 win at Elland Road. The Iran striker Reza Ghoochannejhad got the decisive goal in the 55th minute with superb curling shot from the edge of the box.
