Championship round-up: Forest win... then sack O'Driscoll as manager

Nottingham Forest sacked manager Sean O'Driscoll tonight just hours after he led them to a 4-2 home win over Leeds United which left the club one point off the play-off places.

Owners Fawaz Al Hasawi and Abdulaziz Al Hasawi said in a statement on the club's website that they had made the decision because they wanted a manager with "Premier League experience".

O'Driscoll, who left Crawley in the summer to take over at the City Ground, leaves Forest in eighth. Chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi admitted O'Driscoll was unfortunate. He said: "We cannot speak highly enough of Sean as a man. He was appointed at an extremely difficult time for the club and can count himself unlucky to have lost his job."

Abdulaziz Al Hasawi, who was at today's game, added: "The timing of our decision may look a little odd but sometimes you need to make changes with the long-term future in mind. Sometimes those changes need to be made from a position of strength rather than weakness and that is what we are trying to do."

Billy Sharp scored twice to inspire Forest to come from a goal down to beat Leeds at the City Ground.

Paul Green fired Leeds into an early lead, but Sharp won a penalty when Tom Lees brought him down and converted it to draw Forest level just before the break. Sharp fired Forest ahead early in the second half, before Dexter Blackstock made it three goals in seven minutes. Davide Somma pulled one back for Leeds at the end.

Middlesbrough kept alive their promotion hopes with a 1-0 win against Blackburn. Lukas Jutkiewicz struck the game's goal midway through the second half.

Peterborough made it three wins on the bounce as Wolves fell victim to goals from Lee Tomlin, Tommy Rowe and Dwight Gayle.

Nathan Delfouneso struck for Blackpool to deny Huddersfield a first win in eight games, cancelling out Anthony Gerrard's strike.

Curtis Davies settled a thrilling contest in Birmingham's favour against Barnsley with a 2-1 victory at Oakwell. Davies was on target in each half, sandwiching an equaliser from Jonathan Greening.
