Southampton extended their lead at the top of the Championship to five points after beating second-placed West Ham 1-0 in front of a record St Mary's crowd of 32,150.

Jos Hooiveld rose to head home Daniel Fox's corner on the stroke of half-time, the defender's first league goal since his loan move from Celtic.

Peterborough came out on top in a seven-goal thriller against Cardiff at London Road. The away side had led 3-2 with 11 minutes remaining. The match then seemed destined for a 3-3 draw when Grant McCann slotted home an 87th-minute penalty but Paul Taylor popped up with the winner for Posh in the second minute of time added on.

Leeds missed a chance to move fifth when Coventry's Richard Wood equalised Darren O'Dea's strike with the last kick of the game at Elland Road.
