Coventry chairman Mike McGinnity has revealed the club face debts of more than £20million as they battle to keep their heads above water following their relegation from the Premiership in 2001.
The Sky Blues have struggled to adapt to life in Division One and currently languish in 20th place, with McGinnity insisting the future can yet be bright for his club.
He told the club's official website, www.ccfc.co.uk: "When I took over the wage bill was over £16 million.
Next year it will be down to approximately £4.7million.
We inherited £60 million of debt. We now have it down to just over £20million."
The club have made nine players available on free transfers including Julian Joachim, John Eustace and Youssef Chippo while six players will not have their contracts extended when they expire in the summer.
