Hull City yesterday sacked their manager, Nick Barmby, after he questioned a lack of funding.

Hull's owners, Assem and Ehab Allam, issued a statement that read: "The reason for the dismissal relates to comments made in recent interviews. The comments were wholly misleading and implied that the board had not made funds available in the January transfer window. The board consider the comments unjustifiably cast public doubt on the honesty and integrity of the board and its members."

Barmby, in a statement via the League Managers' Association, said he would appeal. "I maintain that my sacking was entirely without justification," he said.
