"It's a great achievement to get in," said their match-winner, Jason Jarrett. "Now we have to kick on and finish the job."

Billy Davies, the Preston manager, sensed a "job done" mood among his players after Wolves could only draw on Friday - a feeling underlined when Matty Fryatt needed only nine seconds to open the scoring. It was the fastest goal in Leicester City's history but Simon Whaley struck a fine equaliser and Jarrett headed home just the other side of half-time.
