Lennie Lawrence will not apply for vacant Crystal Palace job
Crystal Palace's co-caretaker manager Lennie Lawrence says he will not be applying for the vacant managerial position left by Dougie Freedman's departure for Bolton Wanderers. Instead, he and his fellow co-caretaker Curtis Fleming are expected to join their former colleague.
Speaking after Palace's 2-1 victory at Leicester City on Saturday, Lawrence admitted: "I have a loyalty to Dougie. There has been interest from Bolton but I'm here and will do this job to the best of my ability."
Lawrence also took the time to advertise the post, saying: "Whoever gets it has a golden chance. There's something special here. It's unusual that you get the opportunity to take on a group of players that is so together."
In contrast, Ipswich Town's caretaker manager Chris Hutchings said Paul Jewell's successor will find it tough after overseeing a 3-0 home defeat against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
"It's going to be very hard for whoever takes over," he said. "If they can get new players in it will help. That's what's needed, if I'm honest."
The Cardiff City manager, Malky Mackay, seemed determined to keep his feet on the ground despite seeing his side go top with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Burnley on Saturday.
Mackay said: "I'm acutely aware how relentless and unforgiving this league is as well as how quickly your squad can be decimated by injuries."
