Preston chairman Maurice Lindsay has been left frustrated after Manchester United ended two loan deals following the sacking of Sir Alex Ferguson's son Darren.

The United boss had sent defender Ritchie De Laet and forward Joshua King on loan to Deepdale but has immediately terminated the agreements and, according to Lindsay, the Scot is also looking to recall Matthew James from a season-long deal.

Lindsay told The Sun: "Ritchie and Joshua won't be available because we got a message from Manchester United that they've been summoned back immediately.

"They would like Matty back as well but his contract is a little different."

The Lilywhites parted company with Ferguson junior after slumping to bottom of the npower Championship and installed first-team coach David Unsworth on a temporary basis.

Lindsay added: "What a baptism of fire for David Unsworth, to be told with half an hour in the job that two or three of your best players have been summoned back."
