West Ham United said yesterday that the Football Association had asked the midfielder Ravel Morrison to explain a comment on Twitter that included a homophobic slur.
Manchester United sold the 19-year-old Morrison to West Ham last week, after the player had experienced a series of disciplinary issues while at Old Trafford
The Championship club said the FA had written to Morrison "asking for his observations regarding comments on Twitter". The tweet in question has since been deleted.
A statement on the West Ham website said: "Ravel and the club will cooperate fully with the FA's request and have until Monday evening to respond."
