Alchemy Investment Group's owner Paul Wildes was named as preferred bidder for League Two Port Vale yesterday by the administrator Begbies-Traynor.

Wildes, who now awaits Football League approval for the deal worth £1.25m, said: "I'm not saying Port Vale will be in the Champions League in six years, but I think that the club has the potential to be in the Championship."
