Yeovil Town went down to an unexpected 2-1 defeat at Forest Green Rovers but are still four points clear at the top of the Nationwide Conference after some of their main title rivals also slipped up.

An own goal from the defender Terry Skiverton and a fine strike from the former Bristol City forward Kayode Odejayi condemned the Somerset side to only their third defeat of the season.

Skiverton turned the ball past his goalkeeper Chris Weale after 27 minutes to give the Gloucestershire side the lead against the run of play at The Lawn, then Odejayi doubled Rovers' lead five minutes before the interval when he curled a shot from the edge of the penalty area past Weale.

Odejayi was at fault, though, when he headed an own goal in the final minute, but Forest Green hung on to lift themselves four points clear of the relegation zone.

Doncaster Rovers climbed to second place with a 5-2 win at fourth-placed Scarborough. The visitors went ahead when Andy Warrington's goal-kick found Paul Barnes, who lobbed Scarborough's goalkeeper Andy Woods for his 13th goal of the season. Then Tarkan Mustafa crossed for Robert Gill to head Rovers into a two-goal lead before the break.

Scarborough responded after the interval when Mark Albrighton felled David Pounder in the area and Paul Shepherd converted the penalty, but Jamie Paterson's close-range finish restored Doncaster's two-goal lead.

With 10 minutes left Scarborough's former Doncaster striker Neil Campbell was sent off for his second bookable offence and Paterson soon added his second goal with a shot from the edge of the penalty area. Nick Henry hit back with a well-taken goal but Gill was on target again in stoppage time with his sixth goal in seven matches for Doncaster.

Chester City slipped to third place, a point behind Doncaster with a game in hand on them and Yeovil, after a 1-1 draw at Northwich Victoria. Michael Twiss equalised for Chester two minutes into the second half, after Mark Devlin had put the home side ahead late in the first period.

Kettering Town clambered off the bottom of the table after an early goal from Gez Murphy gave them a 1-0 home win over Stevenage Borough, who are now in last place. That prompted the dismissal last night of their manager, Wayne Turner. The veteran defender John Dreyer takes over in a caretaker capacity.
