Anderson leaves it late
The Brazilian striker Sonny Anderson hit a injury-time goal to complete his hat-trick and cap a remarkable comeback for Lyon, who reached the Uefa Cup fourth round at the expense of Club Bruges.
Trailing 4-1 from the first leg in Belgium, Lyon went 2-0 ahead inside 23 minutes thanks to an Anderson header and a left-footed strike. His angled shot three minutes into stoppage-time sent the French club into the last 16 on away goals.
Servette were another team to cause an upset, ending Hertha Berlin's 10-match unbeaten run. The Germans had beaten Bayern Munich at the weekend, but were thrashed 3-0 by the Swiss side at home.
Real Mallorca, who finished third in the La Liga last season, were knocked out by the Czech side Slovan Liberec. The Spanish side lost 2-1 on the night and 5-2 on aggregate. Feyenoord squeezed into the fourth round by rallying from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Freiburg. The Dutch won 3-2 on aggregate.
