Crouch: I'm in the mood for dancing

Giant striker plays himself into side with hat-trick as Sven laps up six-goal farewell

Sven Goran Eriksson took a bow in the centre circle at Old Trafford yesterday after England had saved the biggest victory of his five-and-a-half years, by six goals to nil against Jamaica, for his last home match in charge.

Liverpool's Peter Crouch sealed a place in the opening World Cup tie against Paraguay on Saturday with his first international hat-trick, giving him five goals in three starts, which would have been six had he not missed a penalty in the second half. Crouch's casual chip from the spot and a groin injury to Ashley Cole were the only blemishes on an emotional afternoon, although a scan later gave Cole the all-clear.

"My only criticism of Peter was how he took the penalty," Eriksson said. "It was a golden opportunity and he joked about it. Otherwise he was fantastic."

Crouch performed his robotic dance after his first two goals but abstained after his hat-trick. "I was angry with myself for missing the penalty," he said. "I got caught up in the moment."

John Terry, like Cole, was taken off as a precaution, but his knee injury is not serious.

Of Wayne Rooney, spotted kicking a ball with both feet at Manchester United's training ground on Friday, Eriksson said: "I'm very positive he will take part."

Jermain Defoe will fly out with the squad tomorrow in case United are less convinced by the results of Rooney's scan two days later.

Eriksson bade farewell to England by praising the country's "love of the game" and added: "I believe this World Cup has come at the right time for the squad. I am desperate to win the trophy. This summer I want us all to make history together. To win the World Cup you need everything to go your way. But I don't think we are worse than any other country."
