Del Bosque unhappy with Spain

A David Villa double helped Spain claim their first points of the 2010 World Cup against Honduras but coach Vicente Del Bosque warned they could not afford to be as wasteful in front of goal against Group H leaders Chile on Friday.

An opening defeat to Switzerland brought pressure on the European champions but they responded positively to win 2-0 at Ellis Park last night. They stuck to their principles of quick, short passing and incisive movement as Villa opened their account with a superb individual effort and then added a second with a deflected strike from Jesus Navas' cutback.

A win over Chile would now give them a strong chance of moving to the last 16 barring a big win for the Swiss over Honduras, and Del Bosque wants his side to be more ruthless against Marcelo Bielsa's side.

He said: "We certainly paved the way for the third group match against Chile, but this hasn't been a great match, we had glorious opportunities, many opportunities, we should have won the game by more goals so I'm not entirely satisfied.

"I felt we've played well against Switzerland and Honduras but in both matches we lacked the finishing touch .

"We will suffer more against Chile if we continue to play like that."

Villa struck the crossbar early on before putting Spain in front in the 17th minute as he cut in from the left, beating three men and firing an unstoppable shot past Honduras goalkeeper Noel Valladares.

His second owed much to good movement when he dropped to the edge of the area as Jesus Navas raced down the right, and when the cutback came he was well placed to drill in a second with the aid of a deflection off Osman Chavez.

Honduras coach Reinaldo Rueda felt his side had simply lost to a better team, but also criticised their failure to take the pressure off themselves by not retaining possession.

"Spain surprised us with that early individual goal, but we lacked conviction in our play. Spain are masters on the pitch, they have matured very well as a collective and have good individual players. There is nothing special to explain this, only that we played a side far superior to ours," the Colombian said.
