A look ahead to tonight’s international friendly at Wembley

The great Anglo-German rivalry resumes tonight in England’s last game of 2013.

After a disappointing loss to Chile on Friday, Roy Hodgson has made a few changes to the side. Manchester City goalkeeper, Joe Hart returns to the line-up after being dropped for Celtic’s Fraser Forster last week. Daniel Sturridge also returns to the starting XI after suffering a foot injury in training. Hart, who has been inconsistent for City this season, appears to be back in Hodgson’s favour having only conceded one goal for England since August. When discussing Hart’s readmission to the team on Monday, Hodgson said, "I am sure he will respond very well. He is a proud man and very pleased to be playing for England. We have had no cause to doubt him in the qualifying games and also the Euros." England have not played Germany since their 4-1 defeat in the last 16 of the 2010 World Cup. Germany, regarded as one of the favourites to win next year’s tournament, will be looking to cap off a strong 2013 that saw them lose only once.

Since 1996, neither Germany nor England have beaten each other on consecutive occasions. Germany were the last victors in 2010.

Since England's last win over Germany at Wembley in March 1975, the Three Lions have lost four of the last five encounters there (D1). England did beat East Germany 1-0 in 1984.

On Friday night against Chile, England lost on home soil by a 2+ goal margin for the first time since February 2003 (1-3 v Australia at Upton Park) and for the first time at Wembley since February 1999 (0-2 v then-World Champions France).

England have not lost successive home internationals since the 1977 Home Nations tournament, when Don Revie's side lost to Wales and Scotland within a week.

Germany have scored at least three times in nine of their last 10 internationals, scoring at least once in each of their last 11.
