England vs France: Fan calls on FA chairman Greg Dyke to donate proceeds to Doctors Without Borders and aid Paris terror attack victims

Ben Lyons has called on Greg Dyke to give the proceeds from tonight's match with France to the organisation that is helping the sufferers of the terrorist atttacks in Paris

A petition has been hastily arranged calling on Football Association chairman Greg Dyke to give all the proceeds from tonight’s England vs France match to the international humanitarian organisation Doctors Without Borders in a bid to assist the victims of the Paris terror attacks.

Ben Lyons, from London, has created the petition to call on Dyke to donate money towards the non-profit organisation that is known for its work in war-torn regions and areas that do not benefit from easy access to healthcare.

However, the French organisation, known locally as Médecins Sans Frontières, is currently coping with a tragedy much closer to home after 129 people were killed and many more wounded in several terrorist attacks across Paris last Friday.

At time of writing, Lyons’s petition was less than 5,000 shy of his 150,000 target, and he has also contacted the FA personally in an attempt to get the governing body onside by giving tonight’s proceeds to “an important cause”.

“There has been an incredible response to this petition, and I hope that people in France will have seen the scale of support and solidarity being shown by people in Britain,” Lyons wrote.

“I’m looking forward to going to Wembley in a few hours to watch the game. We haven’t heard back from the FA yet so let’s lead by example: we can make the most of this huge source of good will to raise some money for an important cause.”

Lyons also linked the change.org page to a justgiving.com site where people can donate money to the Doctors Without Borders and help those in need following Friday’s horrific events.

England players already give their international match fees top charity, although the FA profit from ticket sales as well as selling programmes, merchandise and catering.
