Raheem Sterling: The Manchester City winger is expected to start ahead of record-breaking goal-scorer Jamie Vardy in Marseille in a decision which has attracted huge derision from pundits and former players alike.

The 21-year-old had an indifferent season while Vardy, on the other hand, fired Leicester City to an unexpected Premier League title, scoring 24 goals along the way and breaking Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record with 11 consecutive goal-scoring appearances before Christmas. Sterling may have proven himself to Roy Hodgson, but the supporters may prove harder to please.

Despite flattering to deceive overall, England are unbeaten in 22 European Championship matches, if you exclude penalty shootout exits. Not since the 3-2 qualifying defeat by Croatia in November 2007 have they fallen to defeat.

Artem Dzyuba: A youth product of Spartak Moskva, Artem Dzyuba went on to make his first-team debut in 2006 - later lifting his first piece of silverware while on loan at Rostov, where he won the Russian Cup in 2014. A move to Zenit St Petersburg quickly followed where he lifted the Cup again in 2016 alongside a Russian Super Cup triumph the previous season. With nine goals in 18 appearances for Russia, the 27-year-old is the sharpest tool in Leonid Slutsky’s armoury.
