It’s a big game for…

Scott Brown: The Celtic captain has returned to the Scotland squad after coming out of international retirement. The 31-year-old retired in August to donate his efforts to Celtic but has reversed that decision and is now facing a battle to be fit for Friday’s game, where he will be looking to add to his 50 caps.

Weird stat…

The two sides went 98 years between their first goalless draw in 1872 to their next 0-0 in 1970, playing 85 matches in between those matches. In fact, there have been only 3 goalless draws in 111 official matches between these two rivals, with the highest-scoring fixture being a 9-3 victory to the home side in April 1961.

Remember when…

Scotland travelled to Wembley in April 1967 to face the world champions England and were billed as huge underdogs for the match. However they came away with a memorable 3-2 victory in what ranks as perhaps their greatest ever win against their old rivals.

Player to watch…

Theo Walcott: The Arsenal forward comes into this game in scintillating form, having scored 7 goals in his past 8 games from his favoured wide-right position. However the 27-year-old only has 8 goals to his name in 46 matches for England. He will be no doubt looking to improve on that record on Friday evening.

Past three-meetings…

Scotland 1 (Robertson) England 3 (Oxlade-Chamberlain, Rooney 2)
November 2014

England 3 (Walcott, Welbeck, Lambert) Scotland 2 (Morrison, Miller)
August 2013

England 0 Scotland 1 (Hutchison)
