Jamie Vardy has said that he does not need to explain why he blocked his lookalike on Twitter.

The Leicester City and England striker has cut off contact with Lee Chapman, a life-long Leicester fan who is embarking upon a career as his idol’s doppelganger.

Vardy, who is currently representing his country at the European Championship, was asked why he had moved to block Chapman by a Russian journalist during a press conference on Saturday.

“Jamie, why did you block Lee Chapman on Twitter. I made an interview with him, he’s a nice guy. Lee Chapman,” the journalist said. “Why did you block him?”

“Am I not allowed to block anyone?” Vardy responded. “There’s a lot of people blocked on my Twitter for various reasons which I don’t need to get into.”

The press conference subsequently ended and Vardy left the room smiling, evidently amused by the nature of the last question.

Vardy came off the bench to score in England’s last-gasp 2-1 win over Wales on Thursday, having sat out of the national team’s opening game at Euro 2016, a 1-1 draw with Russia.

The 29-year-old striker is in contention to start on Monday, when Roy Hodgson’s side play their final group game against Slovakia.

England will finish top of Group B if they beat Jan Kozak’s side and are likely to qualify for the knockout stage regardless of the result, though defeat could potentially mean progressing as one of the best third-placed teams.
