Gareth Bale commits future to Real Madrid after signing new five-year contract

The Welshman's increased wage will put him on equal footing with Sergio Ramos and just behind Cristiano Ronaldo

Gareth Bale has committed his future to Real Madrid after signing a new five-year contract.

The Welshman originally penned a six-year deal upon his £86m move to Madrid back in 2013 but his latest contract will now keep him at the Bernabeu till 2021.

Bale has been rewarded for his fine form throughout the 2015/16 season during which he scored 19 goals in 31 appearances and helped his side win their eleventh Champions League title.

Following an impressive Euro 2016 campaign with Wales, the former Tottenham star started the new season in much the same way, netting a brace in the La Liga opener against Real Sociedad to lead his side to a comfortable 3-0 victory – despite the absence of Ronaldo.

Spanish newspaper Marca has claimed that the 27-year-old’s annual earnings will now reach €10m (£8.6m) a year.

Bale’s increased wage will put him on equal footing with Sergio Ramos and just behind Cristiano Ronaldo.

Marca has stated that the Madrid captain will also sign renewed terms with the club within the next month.

Two years ago, Bale’s future at the club looked to be in jeopardy with the player under scrutiny for the 2014/15 campaign during which a number of fitness issues hampered his development.

The Welshman also lost the support of the fans while the club as a whole failed to win any silverware.

Nonetheless, Bale bounced back to cement his place in the Madrid starting line-up and has been subsequently rewarded for his loyalty and performances.
