Tempers flare at Germany World Cup camp as Antonio Rudiger and Joshua Kimmich clash during training

Miroslav Klose was forced to intervene to prevent the confrontation between the two players from escalating

Germany may be the current World Cup champions but it seems things aren’t running as smoothly as manager Joachim Low would like in his training camp.

Indeed, Tuesday’s training session took a turn for the worst after Antonio Rudiger and Joshua Kimmich clashed with one another following a strong tackle from the Chelsea defender.

The Bayern Munich player took objection to Rudiger’s overzealous challenge and proceeded to square up to his international teammate.

According to Bild, assistant coach Miroslav Klose quickly intervened after the two players clashed heads during the confrontation.

The rough and tumble didn’t stop there, with Julian Draxler requiring treatment after taking an elbow to the face. The PSG man wasn’t out of action for long, though, thanks to the help of a quick ice pack.

Germany’s players will be keen to make their presence felt under the watchful eye of Low, who has yet to announce his final 23-man squad for next month’s tournament in Russia.

The current squad is set to be cut down ahead of the deadline on 4 June, with the players literally fighting for a place in every training session.

Germany open their World Cup campaign against Mexico on 17 June, followed by games against Sweden and South Korea.
