Golden boy is banished
Scorers of golden goals at the World Cup have a right to expect their careers to blossom. South Korea's Ahn Jung-Hwan, was probably looking forward to a pay rise from his club in recognition of his increased market value after his winner in the 117th minute on Tuesday sent Italy home early. One problem. The 26-year-old striker plays – or played – for an Italian side, Perugia, who yesterday rewarded him with the sack. The club president, Luciano Gaucci, was incandescent, accusing Ahn of insulting Italy and biting the hand that, until now, had fed him.
