An Argentinian League match was abandoned after less than one minute due to crowd violence at the weekend, an incident which overshadowed River Plate's 2-0 win in the big game with Boca Juniors.

The Instituto v Rosario Central match was abandoned after less than a minute when a referee's assistant was struck by an object thrown from the crowd, as hooliganism returned to haunt the championship.

The linesman needed treatment for a cut after being hit in the incident, which came only 35 seconds after kick-off. Meanwhile, fans clashed outside the stadium after the goalless derby between Racing Club and Independiente in Buenos Aires.

River Plate went top of the Apertura, the first of two championships in the Argentinian season, by beating their big rivals, Boca Juniors, 2-0. The defeat cost Boca the lead in the league table.
