It’s a big game for…

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – While he played a telling part in Sweden’s goal against Ireland, his contribution throughout the match was underwhelming. Sweden’s hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages depend on a win in one of their next two matches (their final game coming against Belgium). Points against Italy would be a massive coup for the Swedes, one that Zlatan will be expected to lead.

Best stat…

The last time these two sides met in a European championship match Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored a late equaliser to rescue a point – a result which left Sweden top of the group and Italy knocked out in third.

Player to watch…

Graziano Pellè – Italy’s win against Belgium has been heralded for Conte’s tactical brilliance; their counter-attacking play having undone tie-favourites Belgium. However, center forward Pellè missed several good chances that Italy might’ve found themselves ruing chances had it not been for their resolute defence. Expect the Southampton man to lead the line again for the Azzurri, and for Conte to have had a few words with him.

Premier League interest…

Italy: Matteo Darmian (Manchester United), Angelo Ogbonna (West Ham); Graziano Pellè (Southampton)

Sweden: Sebastian Larsson (Sunderland)

Past three-meetings…

Italy 1 Sweden 1 – Euro 2004, Group Stages

Italy 2 Sweden 1 – Euro 2000, Group Stages

Vital information…
