Italy beat Sweden 1-0 in Toulouse to secure their place in the knockout stages of Euro 2016.

A fine 88th-minute finish from Eder was enough to secure victory in an otherwise uninspiring game that leaves Sweden on the brink of elimination - although unambitious performances from either side did little to deserve more than the goalless draw that almost unfolded.

First-placed Italy have a total of six points from two games and third-placed Sweden have one; the Republic of Ireland or Belgium could yet climb clear of Sweden depending on the outcome of their match on Saturday.

In that context Italy were expected to again win, but during an uninspiring opening 45 minutes it was Sweden who played with greater intent and who justified previous concerns surrounding Italy's quality.

With a draw looking inevitable, substitute Simone Zaza then headed towards Eder, and the striker classily dribbled through Sweden's defence before equally impressively finishing beyond goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson. Sweden had a stoppage-time penalty appeal dismissed, and Italy held out.

But which player impressed most in Toulouse? Take a look at our ratings and let us know what you think below..

ITALY

Gianluigi Buffon Was never really challenged but dealt with Sweden's corners well. Rating: 6/10

Andrea Barzagli Wasteful with his passes and failed to offer anything going forward. 6

Leonardo Bonucci Solid presence at the back. Put his body on the line especially in the dying minutes. 6

Girogio Chiellini Played with his heart on his sleeve. Battled hard against Zlatan and pulled off a number of key challenges. 7

Antonio Candreva Defensively solid and did his job but relatively quiet as a whole. 6

Marco Parolo Drifted in and out of the game. Had some moments of creativity going forward but largely insignificant. 6

Daniele De Rossi Sluggish and off the pace. Brought off early. 5

Emanuele Giaccherini Came to life at the end of the match with some neat touches and smart passing. 7

Alessandro Florenzi Passing was very off the mark and failed to threaten the Swedish defence. 6

Graziano Pellè Failed to offer as much as he did against Belgium. Substitued early. 5

Éder Perked up in the second half and his fantastic late strike proved what he's capable of. 7

SWEDEN

Andreas Isaksson Coped well with the Italian set-piece. Very little he could have done about Eder's strike. 6

Victor Lindelöf Somewhat underwhelming performance. Some of his passing was very hit-and-miss. 6

Erik Johansson Solid at the back and kept Pelle under wraps while he was on the pitch. 7

Former Arsenal midfielder Kim Kallstrom was one of Sweden's better performers (Getty)

Andreas Granqvist Could have done more to prevent Eder's strike but aside from that he enjoyed a relatively well-rounded performance. 6

Jonas Olsson Threatened with his pace down the left flank in the first half and was a reliable outlet. Quiet second half though. 7

Henrik Larsson Subdued 90 minutes from him. Committed too many fouls. 6

Albin Ekdal Fought hard both on and off the ball. A real nuisance at times. 6

Kim Källström Provided some dangerous balls in the final third. Did have his quiet periods though. 7

Emil Forsberg Threatened but never really troubled the Italian back-line. 6

John Guidetti struggled to make a mark up front for Sweden (Getty)

John Guidetti Got into the right positions but couldn't capitalise on his chances. 6

Zlatan Ibrahimovic Another disappointing performance from a player who's capable of so much more. 5
