Ireland have been knocked out of the World Cup after losing a penalty shootout in their second round match against Spain.

Ireland levelled out Fernando Morientes' first-half goal in the last minute of normal time thanks to a Robbie Keane penalty, Ian Harte had missed a spot kick earlier in the match.

In extra time Ireland were the better team, but during the penalty shootout Matt Holland, David Connolly and Kevin Kilbane all missed to send Spain through to the quarter-finals.
