* The Sedan striker Henri Camara and several more of the Senegal squad are being lined up for moves to Premiership clubs, writes Alan Nixon. Camara is available for around £3m and is looked after by the agent Pape Diouf and his Scottish partner Willie McKay, who plan to bring five or six Senegalese to Britain. Liverpool, who have already signed the midfielder Salif Diao, are closing in on a deal with Lens for the striker El Hadji Diouf. The winger Khalilou Fadiga, rated at £3.5m by Auxerre, has attracted twoPremiership inquiries.

* Germany's Marko Rehmer was back in training yesterday after an ankle injury, but his fellow defender Christoph Metzelder (also ankle) was again absent. Both should be fit to face the US on Friday. Metzelder has not trained since being substituted in Saturday's win over Paraguay

* Fritz Walter, the captain of the West Germany side that won the World Cup in 1954, has died aged 81.

* Luis Figo is considering retiring from international football following Portugal's premature exit, and the jeering of fans when the squad arrived home at Lisbon airport.

* Spain could be without striker Raul for their quarter-final. The thigh injury that led to his substitution on Sunday could be more serious than first thought.

* The Argentina coach Marcelo Bielsa will be offered a new contract, but is likely to reject it. Every coach who has failed to lead the side to the final has been offered a new contract, but none have ever accepted.

* The referee of the France 98 final has died after a two-year battle with cancer. The Moroccan Said Belqola, 45, was the first African official to referee a World Cup final.
