Scotland ended their Far East tour on a high after Berti Vogts finally tasted victory at the fifth attempt as manager. The Scots were too strong for the home side and scored twice in each half, with Kevin Kyle, Steven Thompson, Christian Dailly and Scot Gemmill the men on target. Beforehand, Vogts had described the Hong Kong team – their final Reunification Cup opponents – as of a similar standard to a non-Old Firm Scottish Premier League

A Kyle effort from distance was well off target but his next attempt saw him open the scoring in the 23rd minute and Thompson made it 2-0 14 minutes later. It took Scotland just six minutes after the break to add another goal. David Weir was fouled and Gemmill floated the free-kick into the box where Dailly rose to head past goalkeeper Chun-yip.Robert Douglas denied Hei-chi Yeung a consolation goal with a fine parry before Gemmill made it 4-0. Kyle made ground down the right and decided against trying to find the net from a tight angle. Instead, he waited for Gemmill to arrive and the Everton man had little difficulty slotting past the men in red on the line.
