Caretaker-coach Howard Wilkinson drafted the Manchester United star into the squad on Sunday after taking over from Kevin Keegan.
Sheringham will join his united colleague Andy Cole as well as Emile Heskey, with Michael Owen relegated to the bench.
In total there are six changes to the squad that faced Germany, wth Phil Neville, Ray Parlour, Dennis Wise and Gareth Barry also included in the side.
David Seaman has retained his place in goal despite being partly at fault for Germany's goal at Wembley.
Martin Keown will captain the side, and will be joined by Gareth Southgate at the back.
