The European and world champions may compete for a new title this summer: the Copa America. Spain have been invited to play in this summer's tournament in Argentina.

The South American championship includes two invitational teams from outside the region. Japan were going to play but withdrew after last month's earthquake. The organisers have asked Spain to fill their place.

After the European Championships, the Confederations Cup and the World Cup this would be Spain's fourth straight summer of football should they accept. Real Madrid and Barcelona may not be keen. To say nothing of Arsenal's Arsène Wenger.
